Week 6 Inspiration

This article features several colorized photos which were done in Photoshop by someone who was self-taught. As someone who has always had a love for history, I have always thought colorization was not only very cool, but also can be used as a tool to make history feel more tangible and relevant even to those who don't particularly love the subject. Some purists will say that black and white historical photos shouldn't be colorized because they are a relic and record of their time. I think that colorization improves these images, however, especially the "Self-Immolation of Thic Quang Duc" by Malcome Brown because it really makes the viewer realize the seriousness of the situation captured in the photo. The flames once colorized become more real. On top of that, children growing up in today's world don't know how to read black and white photos because of their limited experience in viewing them in today's colorized world. A history book full of colored photos could have the potential to engage a new generation of 21st century learners.
